DevOps Engineer Job Highlights & Role Overview
This position will sustain and improve the enterprise infrastructure within UCAR’s EIP division and administer multi-platform systems in a secure, efficient environment while participating in strategic planning efforts working with cross-functional technical teams. Duties include Linux system administration, scripting, networking, identity management, infrastructure automation, and workflow optimization. Must have expert knowledge of operating systems, network services, and modern enterprise technologies.
Enterprise infrastructure systems administration and support (DNS, DHCP, LDAP), Email, and related services. Lifecycle administration in its entirety of compute hosts based on Linux, file servers, and storage subsystems. Identity Management systems installation and lifecycle administration; authentication workflow configurations support; single sign-on configuration management. Infrastructure scripting in Shell, Perl, and Python for automation tuning and performance enhancements leading towards maximum possible automation Service delivery across all heterogenous environments (including OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows) to be made seamless.
Infrastructur Planing & Projec Suport
– Partake in planing activitis acros the enterprize and contribut to future server enviroment strategys.
– Asist with instalation, configuracion, tuning, and troubleshooting of enterprize systems.
– Provid technical lead during integrations, enviroment upgrades, and service migrations.
– Collaborate on AGILE proyect cycles and multi-team iniciatives within UCAR.
Operational Exelence & Customer Suport
– Manage workflow for system issues, track resolutions, and ensure minimal service impact.
– Keep up clear talk with customers, stakeholders, and inside teams through written and spoken updates. Fix big operational problems fast when needed, bringing them up higher if they can’t be solved at the current level.
– Give high-level help to system admins and tech users in the same company.
Paperwork, Rules & Steps Betterment
– Write and keep standards for running work, best ways, and process papers.
– Make business systems better by non-stop betterment, updating to be more modern, and making things automatic.
– Check out new tools, techs, and ways to boost infrastructure smarts.
Tracks vendor relationships, recommends technology upgrades, and optimizes purchasing decisions.
Professional Development & Organizational Engagement
Research emerging technologies, industry practices, and security standards. Participate in conferences, seminars, and training as determined to be necessary. Represent EIP on UCAR-wide committees and participate in technical governance discussions.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related discipline or equivalent experience. 8–12 years of professional systems administration experience in enterprise environments.
Technical Expertise
– Proficiency at the mastery level in handling Linux systems within diverse enterprise settings.
– Robust capabilities with Red Hat, scripting languages (Python, Shell, Perl), and server automation.
– In-depth knowledge of DNS, DHCP, LDAP, and SMTP. authentication mechanisms plus identity federation.
– Competence in system resource allocation and performance tuning for intricate infrastructures.
– Background in merging and setting up third-party software packages.
– Solid grasp of limitations regarding network and system interoperability.
Ability to work with different teams in different time zones Strong communication skills and ability to support, mentor, and guide users. Willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours Commitment to knowledge sharing and team-driven improvement.
Benefits
